Andreas Johannes Raymundus van Strijp
Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director

(“Mr. Andreas”), Dutch, aged 67, was appointed as the Independent Non-Executive Chairman on 29 January 2013.

Mr. Andreas graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Higher Technical College Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1966 and obtained a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1975.

He has worked for over 30 years in exploration, development and production within the O&G industry. He has extensive experience working on key operations within Royal Dutch Shell in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia. He started his career as a Research Mechanical Engineer with Shell in 1975 and was promoted to Senior Operations Engineer in Malaysia from 1977 to 1983. He was subsequently posted to Norway to assume the position of Operations Superintendent for A.S Norske Shell, in charge of drilling, procurement and logistics operations for drilling in the North Sea.

From 1985 to 1987, he was Operations Manager of Shell in Nigeria. He was then appointed as the Head of International Procurement of Shell Internationale Petroleum Maatschappij (“SIPM”), based in the Netherlands. During his tenure, he was responsible for procurement for many of the companies within the Shell Group worldwide.

Subsequently, he became Operations Manager of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company in Brunei and was also appointed the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Brunei.

He was Head of Drilling for the Shell Group globally, between 1995 and 1996.

He became the General Manager of the Western Division of Shell in Nigeria and was thereafter appointed as the General Manager of ADCO (“Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations Ltd”), the largest O&G company in the United Arab Emirates, from 2001 to 2005. From 2005 to 2007, he was based in Dubai as the Vice President of Production for Shell, responsible for the O&G production in the Middle East, Egypt, Iran and Pakistan as well as the start-up activities in Siberia.

He brings a great wealth of global experience to Sona Petroleum, along with the benefit of having worked closely with other members of the Sona Petroleum team throughout his career.

Since his retirement, he spends much of his time in Malaysia, having made Malaysia his second home under the Malaysia My Second Home scheme.

Mr. Andreas attended all six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. He is a member of the Audit Committee and the Risk Management Committee of the Company.

 
 


 

Dato’ Sri Hadian bin Hashim
Managing Director and Non-Independent Executive Director

(“Dato’ Sri Hadian”), Malaysian, aged 57, was appointed as an Executive Director of the Company on 21 September 2011 and was subsequently appointed as the Managing Director on 30 May 2013.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 1981.

He has extensive experience in E&P within the O&G industry, working closely with partners such as PETRONAS and Sarawak Shell Berhad (“SSB”) for over 30 years. He was employed by SSB from 1982 to 1994 and for 12 years was involved with the E&P side of the industry.

He resigned from SSB in 1994 and for the next 18 years, expanded his involvement in the O&G industry through various business ventures, which included the provision of support services and distribution of equipment. It was during this period that he worked alongside many professionals, who are now part of the Sona Petroleum team.

He began his career as a Well-Site Petroleum Engineer in 1982 and went on to become Drilling Operations Engineer for Shell from 1987 to 1992.  Thereafter, he was appointed as an Operations Planning Engineer from 1992 to 1994.

In 1995, he joined Itochu Pipe and Tube Asia Corporation Sdn Bhd, a company involved in marketing tubular goods to oil companies. He was appointed as the Executive Director and was subsequently appointed as a Non-Executive Director in 2007. During this period, from 1999 to 2006, he was the Executive Deputy Chairman of Integrated Petroleum Services Sdn Bhd, a company that provided support services to the offshore O&G industry. He then became the Chief Executive Officer from 2006 to 2013. He is currently a Non-Executive Director and shareholder of the Baker Hughes group of companies in Malaysia, Sobena Offshore Inc. Sdn Bhd, Hendroff Holdings Sdn Bhd and Hendroff Mud Engineering Services Sdn Bhd. He is also a Director and shareholder in Phoenix Petroleum (M) Berhad and Integrated Petroleum Berhad.

He brings significant and wide-ranging experience from across all aspects of drilling and engineering to Sona Petroleum His extensive knowledge of appraisal and development of off-shore wells along with his experience of production and development activities within the industry will be instrumental in the Group’s operational developments.

Dato’ Sri Hadian attended all six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014.


 



 


Dato’ Maznah Binti Abdul Jalil
Chief Financial Officer and Non-Independent Executive Director

(“Dato’ Maznah”), Malaysian, aged 62, was appointed as an Executive Director of the Company on 23 October 2012 and was later appointed as the Chief Financial Officer.

She holds a Bachelor of Science, as well as a Master of Science in Business Administration majoring in Finance, from the Northern Illinois University, United States of America (“USA”), in 1977 and Central Michigan University, USA, in 1979, respectively.

She has over 30 years of experience in corporate advisory within both private and public companies. She started her career in 1979 with Amanah Merchant Bank Bhd, where she served until 1992.  During her tenure, she gained extensive experience in corporate finance, which included equity restructuring, listing, mergers and acquisitions, as well as fund raising from the capital markets. In 1992 she joined Master-Carriage Sdn Bhd as Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and was involved in the takeover of the Group’s automotive business by Diversified Resources Bhd (“DRB”) and Gadek Berhad. Following this takeover of HICOM Holdings Bhd by DRB, she became President of HICOM Holdings Bhd.

She later became Executive Director of the DRB-HICOM Group in charge of corporate finance and advisory from 1998 to 2006. During her term with the HICOM Group she was duly recognised and acknowledged as a leading figure in corporate finance and corporate advisory.

This led to her appointment to the boards of several financial institutions, which included Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Bhd and EON Bank Bhd. Both these companies are now part of Hong Leong Bank Bhd. She was also the Chairman of both UniAsia Life Insurance Bhd. and UniAsia General Insurance Bhd. and also served on the board of Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd.

In 1994, she was appointed as a director of Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Bhd, which owns Kemaman Supply Base Sdn Bhd, a company involved in warehousing and logistics within the O&G industry.  She subsequently took on executive roles in institutions such as Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, United Overseas Bank Bhd and Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd.  She currently sits on the Board of Independent Directors for Prestariang Bhd, Pavilion REIT and Phoenix Petroleum Berhad. She is also a member of the Board of Universiti Teknologi Mara and a Trustee (Treasurer) for the Malaysia Aids Foundation.

She provides our team with the extensive corporate knowledge to ensure the smoothest running of Sona Petroleum along with her significant experience in corporate financing.

Dato’ Maznah attended all six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. She is also a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Company.


 
 


 

Myo Thant
Non-independent, Non-executive Director

(“Mr. Myo”), Burmese, aged 64, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 29 January 2013. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rangoon, Myanmar in 1974.

He has over 30 years of experience in the O&G industry, where was extensively involved in exploration, development and production. Between 1974 and 1988, he gained extensive experience as a drilling engineer in his position as the Head of Offshore Operations for Shell in the Netherlands in 1988.  Since then, he went on to become the Head of Well Technology in Scotland and Nigeria, and subsequently as Senior Staff Engineer for Shell in the USA.

He has over 30 years of international experience working in various Shell assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, until his retirement in the USA as Vice President of Commercial Operations at Shell Global Solutions E&P.

He currently has privately held business ventures, which are based in Myanmar and Singapore.

Mr. Myo attended all six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. He is also a member of the Audit Committee of the Company.


 


 


Anton Tjahjono
Non-independent, Non-executive Director
 

(“Mr. Anton”), Indonesian, aged 73, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 29 January 2013.

He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1970 from Trisakti University, Indonesia and then obtained a Master’s Degree in Advanced Education in Business and Accounting from the PPM School of Management, Indonesia in 1973.

He is an entrepreneur and Senior Vice President of PT Tranaco Utama and President Director, Chief Officer of PT Tranaco. He has worked within the O&G industry involved in the construction of tanks and pipelines for over 30 years and was President of the Indonesian Pipeline Industry Association for six years until 1990. He was appointed as the President of The Indonesian Gas Association from 2002 until 2010 and after handing over his post to his successor, he became the Vice President, Upstream of the Association.

He has been involved in a number of other industry bodies over the years, which included the International Gas Union and GASEX. 

He has also served in the Indonesian Chamber for Commerce and Industry as Vice Chairman for the downstream and gas sector committee since 2011.

Mr. Anton attended five out of six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. He is a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

 
 

 

 

Dato’ Mohamed Sabri Bin Mohamed Zain
Non-independent, Non-executive Director
 

(”Dato’ Mohamed Sabri”), Malaysian, aged 59, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 29 January 2013.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming, USA.

His has over 30 years experience working with PETRONAS, where he spent a significant amount of time in development and production of O&G assets. 

He has managed a wide range of O&G development and production internationally throughout his career. During his tenure with PETRONAS, he was Senior Manager of PETRONAS operations in Vietnam and was subsequently promoted to General Manager for PETRONAS Carigali’s operations throughout the Middle East and Asia.

In 2010, he was transferred to MISC Bhd as Vice President of Offshore Business, where he was responsible for operations in Malaysia, Vietnam and Brazil. He was also a board member for various subsidiary companies within the MISC group before leaving in 2012. In 2013, he was appointed as Executive Director and President of GOM Resources Sdn Bhd, an O&G services provider and was also a Director of KGL Ltd. until April 2014.

Dato’ Mohamed Sabri is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Energy Sdn. Bhd. and also sits on the Board of Barakah Offshore Petroleum Berhad.

Dato’ Mohamed Sabri attended all six Board meetings which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. He is the Chairman of the Risk Management Committee of the Company.


 

 

 


Dato’ Mohamed Khadar Bin Merican
Independent Non-executive Director
 

(“Dato’ Khadar”), Malaysian, aged 59, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 29 January 2013.

Dato’ Khadar has more than 30 years of experience in financial and general management. He served as an auditor and a consultant in an international accounting firm, before joining a financial services group in 1986.

Dato’ Khadar has held various senior management positions in Pernas International Holdings Berhad (now known as Tradewinds Corporation Berhad) between 1988 and April 2003, which included as President and Chief Operating Officer. Dato’ Khadar is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is also a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Dato’ Khadar’s other directorships in public companies include RHB Capital Berhad, where he is the Chairman, RHB Bank Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Berhad, Rashid Hussain Berhad (In Members’ Voluntary Liquidation) and Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad.

Dato’ Khadar attended five out of six Board meetings, which were held during the financial year ended 31 December 2014. He is the Chairman of the Audit Committee, and is a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Risk Management Committee of the Company.

 
 

 

 

Haji Akbar Tajudin Bin Abdul Wahab
Vice President of Exploration and Production 

(“Tuan Haji Akbar”) is the Vice President, Exploration & Production of Sona Petroleum.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Physics from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1977 and a Master of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland in 1981.

His career spans across the oil and gas sector where he was employed for over 36 years with PETRONAS. He has extensive experience of operating oil and gas assets, serving as Chief Operating Officer of PETRONAS Carigali between 1995 and 1998, Senior General Manager of the Petroleum Management Unit in PETRONAS from 1998 to 2003 and as Senior General Manager of PETRONAS Carigali between 2004 and 2008.

In 2010, he was appointed as the Adviser to the Petroleum Engineering Division and he assisted in establishing the Hydrocarbon Resource Centre for oil and gas fields. A year later in 2011, he became the Head of Risk and Assurance for PETRONAS Carigali, responsible for all risk management activities within the Exploration and Production Division.



 
 

 

 


Datuk Seri Saw Choo Boon
Vice President, Business Development

(“Datuk Seri Saw”) is the Vice President, Business Development of Sona Petroleum.

He graduated from the University of Malaya in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Chemistry.

His career in the oil and gas industry spans more than 40 years, with extensive experience across the entire oil and gas value chain.  He has substantial experience in the marketing and trading of oil and gas (“O&G”) products, along with business development and management of companies within the region.

He started his career with Shell in 1970, as a Refinery Technologist and went on to work for the company over a wide range of international locations. Between 1975 and 1987 he was Head of Oil for Shell’s Port Dickson Refinery, before becoming Senior Consultant for Shell in Nigeria.

He went on to take on a range of managerial roles for Shell until he was appointed as the Chairman of Shell in Malaysia in 2006, a position he held until 2009. In 2010, he was appointed as Senior Adviser of Shell Malaysia, a position he held until retirement later the same year.

 
 

 

 
Andria Anak Dundang @ Andria Gelayan
Vice President, Geoscience 

(“Mr. Andria”) is the Vice President, Geoscience of Sona Petroleum.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Geology from the University of Malaya in 1983 and started his career in the oil and gas industry the following year. He brings to Sona Petroleum a wealth of experience as a geologist in the oil and gas industry.

From 1986 to 2000, he held the position of Production Geologist for Shell, PETRONAS and Qatar Petroleum, where he provided geological input to reviews of potential oil and gas reserves. He went on to become Senior Production Geologist and Senior Geologist for various companies within the oil and gas industry.

He has earned a variety of special recognition for work, exceeding expectations throughout his successful career.



 
 

 

 


Dr. Tan Teck Choon @ Teck Kiew
Vice President, Reservoir Engineering 

(“Dr. Tan”) is the Vice President, Reservoir Engineering of Sona Petroleum.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering with first class honours and a doctorate (PhD) in Petroleum Engineering, majoring in Reservoir Simulation, from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London in 1978 and 1982 respectively.  He is currently a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and an associate of the Royal School of Mines Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London.

Dr. Tan has over 30 years of industry experience, which included positions as Reservoir Engineering Manager and Petroleum Engineering Consultant, working with companies such as Sarawak Shell Berhad, Sabah Shell Petroleum, Shell International Asia and  Pacific Petronas Carigali. His experience covers a broad exposure to technical, operational and business aspects in the upstream oil and gas industry.

From 2004 to 2006, he was Senior Reservoir Engineer at PETRONAS Carigali in the Baram Delta operations, before becoming a Regional Reservoir and Petroleum Engineering Consultant in the Asia Pacific in 2007.  Between 2007 and 2011 he held the position of Regional Reservoir Engineering Consultant for Shell International Asia Pacific.


 
 

 



Sakthi Kumar S/O Ramadas
Finance Manager

(“Mr. Sakthi”) is the Finance Manager of Sona Petroleum.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) Degree from University of Malaya in 2002 and a Master of Business Administration (“MBA”), majoring in corporate finance from Cardiff Metropolitan University, London in 2013.

Mr. Sakthi has over 12 years of working experience in audit, accounting, finance and business support function in multinational companies, locally and internationally.

He started his career with Deloitte & Touché in 2003 as an external auditor, where he managed O&G, IT and manufacturing portfolios. His career spans across the O&G where he was employed by Petrofac Training Services in 2007, as Regional Finance Manager for the Asia Pacific (“APAC”) region. He went on to take on a range of managerial roles for Petrofac Training Services, until his appointment as Finance Consultant for Petrofac Training Services Singapore in 2011, based in Singapore.

In mid-2012, he returned to Malaysia to take up the role as Regional Business Support Manager for the APAC region with Altor Risk Group (a Stirling Group company and subsidiary of the Olive Group). His portfolio was then extended to cover finance, commercial, contracts, human resource and administration portfolio for the APAC region.
